Terms and Conditions

To help you get the most from your membership at HHO, and to clearly set out responsibilities for both you and us,
please read these Terms & Conditions carefully.

These Terms apply to all members at all times and take priority over any verbal communication from HHO staff. By
becoming a member, you agree to comply with these Terms.


DEFINITIONS

  • You / Member: The named member on the application
  • Linked Member: Any individual connected to your membership (e.g. family member)
  • Membership: Your membership and any linked memberships
  • We / Us / HHO: HHO (the facility and operating entity)
  • Facilities: All land, water, buildings, equipment, and services provided by HHO


1. MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

a) All members must:

  • Act safely and responsibly at all times
  • Follow all HHO rules, safety guidance, and signage
  • Respect staff, other members, and the environment

b) You are responsible for:

  • Your own safety and actions
  • Any linked members and guests you bring onsite
  • Any fees, damages, or additional charges incurred

c) You must:

  • Follow all water safety rules and instructions
  • Only take part in activities you are competent to undertake
  • Disclose relevant medical conditions where required

d) All members must comply with:

  • HHO Facility Rules & Conditions of Use
  • Any activity-specific safety briefings or inductions
     

2. HEALTH, SAFETY & WATER USE
Due to the nature of HHO as a watersports and open environment site:

a) Water-based activities carry inherent risks including:

  • Drowning
  • Cold water shock
  • Slips, trips, and falls
  • Changing weather and tidal conditions

b) By using HHO facilities, you acknowledge and accept these risks.

c) HHO may require:

  • Completion of inductions or competency checks
  • Use of safety equipment (e.g. buoyancy aids)
  • Compliance with zoned activity areas

d) HHO reserves the right to:

  • Restrict or stop activities due to safety concerns
  • Refuse access where conditions are unsafe
     

3. THIRD-PARTY OPERATORS & CLUBS

a) HHO may allow third-party clubs (e.g. canoe, paddleboard, or watersports providers) to operate onsite.

b) These operators are responsible for:

  • Their own risk assessments
  • Their participants and instruction
  • Activity-specific safety management

c) HHO is responsible for:

  • The safety of the overall site and environment

d) If you participate in third-party activities:

  • You may be subject to additional terms and waivers
  • Responsibility may sit with the operator, not HHO
     

4. MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

a) Membership provides access to specific facilities and benefits depending on category.

b) Some activities, services, or areas may:

  • Require additional payment
  • Require booking
  • Be restricted by experience or qualification

c) Membership does not guarantee availability of all facilities at all times.
 

5. MEMBERSHIP TYPES

Annual Membership

  • 12-month minimum term
  • Paid upfront or via agreed structure
  • Automatically renews unless cancelled with notice


6. FEES & PAYMENTS

a) Fees must be paid in full and on time.

b) Late or missed payments may result in:

  • Suspension of access / Additional charges / Referral to debt recovery

c) Cancelling a Direct Debit does not cancel your membership.
 

7. ACCESS & IDENTIFICATION

a) Membership is personal and non-transferable.

b) You may be required to:

  • Provide identification
  • Use a membership card or digital access

c) Misuse (e.g. sharing access) may result in termination.
 

8. GUESTS

a) Members may bring guests, subject to:

  • Sign-in procedures / Payment of guest fees / Supervision at all times

b) Guests must follow all HHO rules.

c) Members are fully responsible for their guests.


9. USE OF FACILITIES

a) You must:

  • Use facilities only for their intended purpose
  • Follow all signage and staff instructions

b) Some areas may be:

  • Restricted / Supervised / Weather or tide dependent

c) HHO may close or restrict areas at any time for:

  • Safety / Maintenance / Events
     

10. CHANGES TO MEMBERSHIP

a) You may request to:

  • Change membership type
  • Add/remove linked members

b) Changes may:

  • Affect fees / Trigger new minimum terms
     

11. SUSPENSION

a) Membership may be suspended:

  • For up to 3 months (standard) / Longer for medical reasons (with evidence)

b) A reduced fee may apply during suspension.
 

12. CANCELLATION BY YOU

a) You must give written notice in line with your membership type.

b) Membership continues until the end of the notice period.

c) Early termination may be allowed for:

  • Medical reasons / Relocation / Significant life changes (subject to evidence)
     

13. CANCELLATION BY HHO

We may suspend or cancel membership if:

  • Rules or safety requirements are breached
  • Behaviour is unsafe, abusive, or inappropriate
  • Membership is misused
  • Payment obligations are not met

Serious breaches may result in immediate termination without refund.

14. FACILITY CHANGES

a) HHO may:

  • Change, remove, or add facilities
  • Adjust operating hours
  • Close areas temporarily or permanently

b) Where possible, notice will be given.

c) No refunds apply for temporary closures due to:

  • Weather
  • Safety
  • External factors beyond our control


15. LIABILITY

a) Use of HHO is at your own risk.

b) HHO is not liable for:

  • Loss or damage to personal property
  • Injury or death except where caused by our negligence
     

16. DATA PROTECTION
We comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and handle your data in line with our Privacy Policy.
 

17. CHILDREN

a) Children must be supervised at all times.

b) Access may be restricted depending on activity.

c) Unsafe behaviour may result in removal or suspension.
 

18. GENERAL

a) These Terms may be updated at any time.

b) Continued use of HHO constitutes acceptance of any updates.

c) Membership is also subject to:

  • HHO Facility Rules
  • Activity-specific waivers and inductions
